Italian Islands
Villa Arasole

nvigorating walks and relaxing strolls breathing in the refreshing fragrances of the Mediterranean are a delightful way to spend time at the villa, given that there is a total of 3000 square metres of land in which to wander. This large garden of tall shady trees is interspersed with imposing granite rocks typical of Sardinia.

Villa Arasole is a lovingly restored old Sardinian country house with many of its late nineteenth century original features preserved.

Indoors: Banquet in the elegant living room beside the fireplace and small library. The room has some modern features, too, like Satellite TV and stereo. Stairs lead up to a little terrace with enchanting views across the treetops to the sandy bay of Solanas with its clear azure sea. Each of the four traditional-style bedrooms, two doubles and two twins, has both air conditioning and ceiling fans.

There are two bathrooms, one of which is perhaps the most ornate room in the house with its gilt and brass fittings! The small kitchen is well-equipped with electric oven and dishwasher.

Outdoors: Villa Arasole is pleasantly situated on a slope between sea and hills. A small road leads from the villa’s main gate down to the Solanas beach, 900 metres away. The owner has wisely left the extensive garden in its natural state taking advantage of the perfumes and colours of the granite rocks, the mature trees and the lush Mediterranean macchia. Wandering through the little garden paths amidst lentisks, olives trees and age-old junipers you will find teak tables and chairs in the shade of large white parasols, ideal for having breakfast of local Sardinian produce, or for simply enjoying a moment of tranquil relaxation. Behind the villa is a utility area with washing-machine, drying facilities and the barbecue.

Surrounding Area: The Spiaggia di Solanus is one of the largest sandy beaches on the south-east coast. In fact, the drive from Cagliari to Solanus is one of the most panoramic stretches of road on the whole island, skirting the beautiful rocky coastline dotted with sandy beaches. It is just a short journey to the lively beach resort of Villasimius, which is a great place to spend an evening out as there are lots of bars and restaurants. Nearby in the other direction are the three pretty beaches of Torre delle Stelle. The area is good for long interesting walks, admiring the fauna and flora in the ‘Sette Fratelli’ (‘Seven Brothers’) park, and the Castiadas nature reserve.

Italian Islands Insight: The garden has a swing but we cannot guarantee its safety as it was handmade by the owner, and, due to the sloping nature of the grounds with granite rocks cropping up here and there, it may not be suitable for toddlers. Ugo, the friendly and welcoming owner, is a fount of knowledge about his beloved native region, and will be able to give guests excellent advice on the best places to visit and local secrets to discover.

‘Arasole’ is a poetical name that tells of earth and sun. It is also the name of the little village on the confines of the Goceano forests that inspired the writer Francesco Masala.

Villa Arasole is an unforgettable holiday experience that comes very reasonably priced. It is near beaches and recreational activities, is in an area of outstanding and peaceful natural beauty, and benefits from being just a short panoramic drive from the airport and capital city, Cagliari. It is a special place that you will want to tell everyone about when you get back home.
