The incredible pool
One of the bedrooms
Indoors: Casa Bluarancione is entered through a conservatory - style living/dining room with two glass walls positioned to maximise the enjoyment of the beautiful sea views. The other two walls are made of exposed stone whilst the ceramic floor tiles are turquoise and white. There is a sofa and a dining table for four. This room leads into the kitchen, which is well equipped with oven, dishwasher, toaster and blender among other things. The owner also provides some simple breakfast foods. The quirky living area
![]() The other double bedroom From here you get to the ‘blue’ room a spacious double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, which also contains a washing machine. It has been decorated with modern art paintings and there is Satellite TV. A door connects through to the second bedroom, but this room also has its own entrance from the terrace outside. This is the ‘orange’ room and it too has an en-suite, although this time it is a shower room. There are fans in both bedrooms and the design of the place helps keep things cool in the summer, when there is usually a gentle sea breeze. For winter there is central heating. View from the grounds
Outdoors: The stone-paved terrace runs along the front of the house and has tables and lounger-style deckchairs to relax on whilst admiring the views of the grounds, the sea and islands. A path leads down from here to some steps that in turn lead to the amazing seawater swimming pool. Directly facing the sea and the islet of Argentarola, not only are the views fabulous but you also have the feeling the pool is almost an extension of the sea. The long terrace
![]() Steps down to the pool Surrounding Area: A steep path descends from the main entrance gate to the estate down to the extremely picturesque Cala del Gesso. Casa Bluarancione is in fact the property nearest to this lovely beach, even though it is still around 500 metres away. Although boats are allowed into the bay, the beach never becomes overly crowded because it is hard for people to access by car and on foot. The sunsets in the west of the Argentario where the house is located are particularly enchanting and the sun lasts long into the afternoon and evening on this side of the promontory. The town of Porto Ercole
The beautiful nearby beach
A car is definitely required though, as it is a bit out of the way compared to where the two main towns are located. Porto Santo Stefano can be reached by around a ten-minute drive along a very panoramic road. There are plenty of shops and there are two ports here, both lined with good restaurants and bars. The larger port has daily connections to the island of Giglio, which makes a lovely day excursion and Giannutri, which has the remains of an old Roman villa can also be reached by ferry several times a week. You can drive right the way round the promontory and there are some breathtaking views but this is not for the faint of heart as 4 km in the south is a bumpy dirt track only. An Argentario sunset
Porto Santo Stefano
The Argentario is connected by road to the rest of Tuscany and nearby attractions include among other things the remains of the Roman town of Cosa; the Giardino dei Tarocchi, a garden filled with interesting sculptures; Capalbio, a beautifully restored medieval city; and the natural sulphur hot springs of Saturnia, where you can bathe for free outdoors in the Cascate del Gorello or pay to use the facilities of the Saturnia Spa Resort. Sightseeing: Porto Santo Stefano, Porto Ercole, Orbetello, La Feniglia, Giglio, Giannutri, Rome, Tuscany. Swim with sea views
Italian Islands Insight: The charming owner and her two dogs also live within the extensive grounds, which are well-cared for by two regular gardeners. There is also a small separate dwelling for a couple, Casetta Gialla, which also has access to the pool and there is a well-equipped communal barbecue area for guests of both properties. The helpful owner speaks good English and is a fount of knowledge about the surrounding area. She usually invites guests up to her apartment for nibbles and drinks soon after they arrive in order to pass on her best tips. The wonderful setting
For the peace of guests in the nearby Casetta Gialla and for safety reasons, as the grounds are set on the edge of a steep hillside, the owner prefers not to rent Casa Bluarancione to children under the age of 12.
The setting here is so beautiful and the pool such a luxury that you will be hard pressed to tear yourself away, but if you do, it is not far to a wonderful beach and there are plenty more beaches and other sites of interest to be explored in the Argentario and further afield. |
