View of Palmarola islandfrom the roof terrace Beautiful sea views fromthe indoors too Outdoors: Perched on a cliff top overlooking the sea, Casa dell’Acqua’s outdoor space has been designed to maximise the beautiful view. The spacious tiled roof terrace is the ideal spot to sunbathe on sunloungers while admiring the panorama. Steps lead down to a smaller covered terrace with dining table and chairs, a sink, an outdoor shower and the same stunning views. Casa dell'Acqua's roof terrace
The smaller dining terrace
Indoors: Unusually, the property is entered over the roof terrace and down a flight of stairs. You step straight through into the open plan dining area where you can sit at the table and admire the views through the large windows. An archway leads through to the well-equipped kitchenette and there is a door through to the shower room. Another arch leads into the main bedroom which has a double bed and a sofa/single bed. There is Satellite TV in this room and plenty of storage space. From here there is a door through to the corridor which leads to the large and beautifully tiled bathroom and to the second double bedroom which also has an extra single bed in it. Surrounding area: Casa dell’Acqua overlooks the small beach of Cala dell’Acqua and in this part of the island you can see the partially working Ancient Roman aqueduct built by digging long galleries into the hills where water was collected in huge containers and in the old days satisfied the needs of the whole island. The property is located in the Le Forna area of Ponza in the north of the island which is blessed with many lovely coves and beaches. Although more peaceful in the main season than the bustling port town, this area has plenty of good places to eat out and enjoy a drink or two. Minibuses connect this area with Ponza Porto which has lots more bars and restaurants. An ideal way to get around the island is to hire a scooter, stopping often to admire the views. Another option is to get a water taxi to many of the island’s hidden beaches. You can also catch a ferry to the charming island of Ventotene. Discover Ponza's secrets by boat
A typical island view
Sightseeing: Ponza town, Le Forna, The Pontine Islands. Italian Islands Insight: Although indoors this single-storey property is fine for children and there is an extra single bed in each of the double rooms to accommodate them, parents would need to carefully supervise toddlers and small children on the set of stairs down to the property as this is above the sea and although there is an iron safety rail, there are gaps at the bottom and the steps are open tread. For this reason it would not be a suitable choice for those with mobility problems. Casa dell’Acqua would be a great choice for two couples or a family and in the lower season one couple can rent half of the house (minus the second bedroom and bathroom) for a slightly reduced rate. Perched atop a cliff
The dining area of the roof terrace, a few steps down from the main roof terrace, is completely private and guests also have the use of the spacious main roof terrace but please be aware that Gabriella, the friendly owner who lives next door, often hangs her clothes out to dry here too. Gabriella’s husband Francesco is a great person to know on the island as he is the captain of his own boat and organises special excursions round Ponza and to some of the other Pontine islands, often with lunch on board. Enjoy your meals here
At Casa dell’Acqua you won’t be able to get enough of the fabulous views and you can spend hours relaxing on the spacious roof terrace and eating your meals. However, should you wish to venture further a field, there are shops and restaurants within walking distance in the pretty settlement of Le Forna. The whole island of Ponza is a treasure just waiting to be discovered. |
