Italian Islands
Villa Gaivina

Villa is detached within rocky terrain

ncredible views are a constant source of pleasure for guests at Villa Gaivina, with Tavolara island rearing up from the sea to dominate the striking sea view that up to eight guests can enjoy. Perched on the hillside of the exclusive Costa Dorata, this detached villa has luxurious interiors and is just 400 metres from a pretty beach.

View from the terrace dining table

Outdoors: With such an amazing view, guests need a comfortable vantage point from which to admire it, and Villa Gaivina does not disappoint. Whilst the steep grounds to the rear and the sunny roof terrace are useful bonuses, the front terrace is surely the most delightful part of the villa. The dining section is covered to afford shade, and the adjacent area with sun loungers has a large parasol that can be erected when the Sardinian sun gets too much.

The villa is on a steep hillside and steps lead up from the road to the terrace and continue to the rear of the house. The rugged land around the villa ensures that guests will have good levels of privacy from their neighbours.

Dining indoors is also an option

Indoors: Comfort is drawn from traditional Sardinian materials and designs, with bright motifs embellishing the walls and an old-fashioned fireplace the focal point of the living room. Modern benefits are also introduced to the villa, with full air conditioning throughout.

The traditional fireplace and benches

The pale shade of typical Sardinian blue is most noticeable when entering the living / dining room, but is also used in the three bedrooms of the main villa. One of these is double, one twin, and one can be used as either. Each is air conditioned, as is the living room, which has a large dining table under its chestnut-beamed ceiling as well as two seating areas. There is a separate kitchen and two shower rooms in the main villa.

A path runs beneath the front terrace to the villa’s self-contained annex, which has a bunk-bed and an en-suite shower room.

Well-kept paths between coves

Surrounding Area: The Costa Dorata is a series of pretty coves – some sandy and some rocky – with a well-established infrastructure around it. Villas in this sought-after destination tend to be larger and more isolated from one another, and the exclusive Don Diego hotel in the neighbouring coves has an excellent bar and restaurant.

Beach bar at Porto Taverna

Beaches in Sardinia are never private, but land access can be restricted. Residents at Villa Gaivina will enjoy full access to the sandy beaches, which are a five minute walk away.

A five minute drive will take guests to the fantastic Porto Taverna, and there are plenty of other fine beaches in the area, each with a unique perspective of Tavolara which itself can be visited on a ferry from Porto San Paolo. This town is the nearest to Villa Gaivina and has a wide variety of restaurants, shops and delicious gelaterias where making new combinations of ice-cream flavours is treated as a serious craft.

A smaller cove in Costa Dorata

Italian Islands Insight: The splendour of Villa Gaivina’s view is balanced by its spaciousness and luxury within. While the draw of Tavolara will lure guests towards the beach, the comfort of the interior and the large terrace will make leaving resistible.

The downstairs annexe

Car hire is recommended for guests at Villa Gaivina, as the amenities of Porto San Paolo are 2km away and the nearby coastline has so much to offer. The renowned Costa Smeralda is not far from the Costa Dorata and is worth a day trip.

The versatile layout of the villa and its annexe is suitable for any large group who wish to holiday in an exquisite location with a magical view.
