 Lampedusa's old port
Surrounding Area: Guitgia beach is perhaps the most popular beach on the island and it is surrounded by hotels and bars. It has good facilities and you can hire sunloungers and parasols. Also within walking distance is the new port which has some very good restaurants and the lively Caffé del Porto. You can also hire boats here. The old port is a longer walk as is the high street, Via Roma, which has all manner of tempting places to buy a drink or an ice-cream as well as several shops.  Guitgia beach - just 20m
Although you can get to many places on foot, to fully explore the island and its other wonderful beaches we recommend that you hire a scooter, or a car if you prefer, and bicycles are another option if it is not too hot. Make sure you do not miss out on a visit to the beautiful sandy beach in front of the Isola dei Conigli, which has incredibly clear waters. There are no facilities at this beach as it is part of a nature reserve but there is a restaurant nearby which does excellent pasta and if you place an order earlier in the day they can bring down drinks and snacks to the beach in the main season. A visit to Linosa makes a good day out and fairly regular ferries/hydrofoils leave from the old port.  The dining table
Indoors: Casetta da Mammina is a ground floor one-bedroom apartment that has been newly decorated with a sunny blue and yellow colour scheme. Framed photographs of Lampedusa’s beautiful coastline adorn the walls along with some colourful ceramic pieces. The air conditioned living area has a wooden dining table, a cane sofa and a TV as well as a brightly tiled simple kitchen corner with hob and fridge freezer. The beautiful stone tiled flooring continues through to the bedroom which features a very unusual double bed and an interesting lighting effect. Outdoors: At the property’s entrance is a small terrace with partial sea view between two buildings opposite. There is a little table for two and a large pot plant, making it the perfect spot for a morning coffee before heading off to the beach for the day.  Small sea-facing terrace
Italian Islands Insight: If Casetta Da Mammina is unavailable or if you are a family with one or two young children who are looking for a good value option and want to be close to the beach, then Casetta Da Mammina Due may be the solution. This is located at the back of the property so does not have any views to speak of although its small terrace is surrounded by greenery. It is a larger apartment that is decorated in exactly the same style as Casetta da Mammina. The living room and bedroom are both more spacious and the bedroom also has a carved wooden bunk bed as well as the unusual double bed, so it could sleep four in total. In either property, the friendly owner is happy to prearrange transport hire for you so that you will find it waiting for you when you arrive. The owner is in fact a great person to know on the island as she and her husband run a truly superb restaurant, just off the Via Roma and because the family owns two of the island’s best hotels. As a result she offers her guests free port/ airport transfers and a place on the hotels’ catamaran for an amazing trip around the island by sea with free lunch on board.
