Italian Islands
Il Ramerino

Beautiful sea views

Giglio Island is opposite

rresistible views of lush countryside and sparkling sea, ample outdoor areas and a peaceful location are the key attributes of this wonderful villa. Ramerino means rosemary in local dialect and when you inhale the scent of the fragrant wild herbs in the pretty garden, you will soon see why it is a fitting name. Located at the end of a small road with nothing but countryside on three sides, Il Ramerino enjoys a privileged position within the exclusive Cala Piccola condominium in an otherwise wild and untouched part of the Argentario.

Mountain & landscape views two

Outdoors: Il Ramerino is blessed with lots of private outdoor space to relax in and different places to sit and enjoy the fantastic views. There are various garden, terrace and patio areas on different levels. The entrance to the property is through wooden gates along a stone paved pathway to the villa’s front door and there are beautiful sea and countryside views all the way along. The path is bordered by flower beds full of foliage, flowers and herbs with several pot plants in front of it. Nearer the villa is a paved area with tables to sit out and admire the views while enjoying a drink. Steps lead down to another patio area and the barbecue area where the views are ever present. Continuing along from here takes you to a lawn with a long table for dining accompanied by the background of the sea. This is a shady area to spend the afternoon when it might otherwise be too hot but there are also sunloungers further along if you want to bask in the rays instead.

Off the living room is a fabulous terrace with panoramic sea views with the islands of Giglio and Giannutri in the distance as well as the bay of Cala Piccola. There are cane chairs to sit out in and a table if you want to dine here instead of in the garden. The terrace extends to the side and also leads into the master bedroom.

Indoors: The owner’s passion for the sea and boats is clearly visible in the décor, from the photographs in the hallway, to the shell motif in the main bedroom to the model-boats in the living room, hand-made by the owner himself. The personal touches do not take over though and instead add to the atmosphere. The living room is in keeping with the marine theme but also has a slightly rustic feel to it. There is a dining area with bench seating and two comfortable sofas to relax on facing the handsome fireplace. One of these converts to a double sofa bed.

The master bedroom with ceiling fan has a beautiful painting directly on the wall of what the view would be if there wasn’t a wall there. Arguably the best feature of this room is the fact it opens out onto a sea-facing terrace with spectacular views. The other bedroom is a twin room that could be converted into a double on request. There are two nicely tiled shower rooms, one of which also contains a washing machine. The separate kitchen is well equipped with oven, dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer. It has a partial glass roof looking up to the plants and cacti in the stone-bordered flower beds above.

Surrounding Area: Cala Piccola offers a private beach which is well looked after by the staff of this exclusive condominium. A café bar/ restaurant is next to the beach at reasonable rates and two sunloungers and a parasol are reserved for guests of Il Ramerino on the decking built into the rocks overlooking the cove. You reach it either by driving the short journey within the consortium or jump on the shuttle bus that stops near the property. Otherwise there are plenty of other beaches in the Argentario, whether you are after long expanses of sand with plenty of facilities or smaller picturesque bays, both rocky and sandy.

The chic Porto Stefano

Cala del Gesso beach nearby

There are two main towns to explore, the nearer of which is Porto Santo Stefano which has a bustling port and a chic marina with smart bars and restaurants along its promenade. There are lively fish markets if you want to buy fresh fish to take home to grill on your barbecue. Day excursions to the islands of Giglio and Giannutri are possible as are road trips to explore the Italian mainland. The lovely old towns of Orvieto and Siena are 120 km away and Rome is just over an hour and a half’s drive.

Italian Islands Insight: There is another nearby restaurant within the complex and one just a short drive away if you don’t want to drive out into town every night, although this is only around a ten-minute drive. Il Ramerino is well-equipped with amenities and if you bring your own Sky card then you can watch Satellite TV in the living room.

The owners have a young grandchild so thought has been given to safety for toddlers and potential hazard areas in the garden have been carefully fenced off. One of the beds in the twin room also has a safety guard which can be attached on request. This makes it an ideal choice for a family with children but it would equally suit two couples seeking a quiet getaway with plenty of space.

If you can tear yourself away from the beautiful grounds of your villa with its amazing views then there is a lot to be explored in the surrounding area. Either way it is the perfect choice for a comfortable and relaxing holiday in tranquil natural surroundings.
