The round stone cottage
Cala Croce - 500 m away
Sea view from the garden
Indoors: Careful and intelligent thought has equipped Casa Rotonda with beautiful furnishings and sufficient storage space. In keeping with the characteristic rustic theme, the rough limestone is left bare on most sections of the circular walls, and is further enhanced by a display of maritime pictures and ornaments. Unique circular bedroom
A short, narrow corridor runs around one side of the bedroom and connects a washbasin with a shower cubicle and WC. Another small room is set off the bedroom and features a fridge and some rudimentary cooking facilities for the rare occasions when the elements inhibit use of the more extensive equipment in the outdoor kitchen. The large barbecue area
Outdoors: The sheltered outdoor kitchen has a sink and gas hob, and is complemented by a large barbecue that occupies its own section of the garden. The patio in front of Casa Rotonda is the best place to consume the results of whichever cooking facility you use, though there is a table with stools in the main room too. Dine outside on the patio
The garden is shaded by many trees and tall palms, which give way at the foot of the garden to a delightful spot equipped with two deck chairs. Either a morning coffee or an evening aperitif can be enjoyed here, while you admire the sight of the sun glittering on the waves nearby at Cala Madonna. Surrounding Area: Casa Rotonda and its garden are located off the dirt track that leads to the small sandy cove of Cala Madonna, a rocky inlet with a sandy beach and a café, just 300m away. A short walk beyond this leads visitors to the larger Cala Croce, whose twin sandy beaches attract more bathers. The café at this less secluded cove is open for longer than the seasonal one at Cala Madonna. Cala Madonna - 300m walk
In the opposite direction, the track connects to the main road that runs across Lampedusa. Just 1.5km to the east is Lampedusa town, with its twin ports, restaurants and cafés, while a longer trip to the west will be more than rewarded by a visit to the sandy beach facing the Isola dei Conigli – probably the most beautiful spot on the island and a great place to snorkel. Coastline near Isola dei Conigli
Apart from simply enjoying the intimacy of Casa Rotonda, guests may be tempted by the range of activities offered by the sea. In particular, diving and fishing are popular activities, surpassed only by eating plenty of deliciously prepared fish and seafood in the fantastic restaurants. The unusual interiors
Italian Islands Insight: The outdoor cooking facilities of Casa Rotonda may restrict visitors to months when good weather can be depended upon. Fortunately, Lampedusa’s proximity to Africa means that splendid weather can be counted on for seven to eight months each year, and the waters remain warm enough for comfortable swimming as late as November. Rugged coastline, azure waters
Although walking or cycling into town is a pleasant option during the day, guests who want to experience the lively bars and restaurants in the evening should consider hiring motorised transport or at least carry a torch. The owner of Casa Rotonda is always keen to assist guests and will arrange hire of bicycles, scooters and cars at good rates. He also delivers guests with their luggage to and from the airport or ferry terminal. The picturesque entrance
Casa Rotonda is the most romantic of places to spend a relaxing holiday – in a private garden on a secluded section of a remote island. Couples who stay at Casa Rotonda are sure to find that the sound of lapping waves and the sight of the crystalline sea further augment their appreciation of both the island and each other’s company! |
