Sea & island views
Beautiful views
Indoors: The first impression upon entering Casa sulla Scogliera is remarkable, and the appreciation of its design will last an entire holiday. From the lower living area, with sofa and fireplace, five steps lead up to a comfortable lounge. Next to this, and framed by enormous pillars, a dining area overlooks the lounge. The master bedroom
Behind this dining area is the tiled kitchen, which has plenty of surface space and enough appliances for the preparation of large meals, as well as handy features like a dishwasher. Snacks can be served on the small counter within the kitchen, but the best meals will be eaten on the terrace or back in the raised dining area, where the shade and the ceiling fans will cool guests who have had enough sun. Raised lounge area
A corridor from the lounge leads to the bathroom, which has excellent tiling and a bath with shower attachment. Next to this is the double room, which is furnished in a crisp, minimalist fashion. Next door, the bunk bedroom also has a single bed in one corner of the room, and open-tread stairs lead up to a low-ceilinged upper level where two more guests can sleep or just relax and use it like another living room. There is a separate shower room. The terrace runs along the front of the villa
Outdoors: The two bedrooms each have French windows opening open onto the sun-drenched terrace, which enjoys a marvellous view of the sea towards the island of Giglio. In addition to the potted flowers that sit upon the low wall bordering the terrace, pines on the steep hillside create a delightful contrast between the tones of the blue sea and their rich shades of green. This narrow strip of terrace broadens out at the main entrance to the living area, where a dining table offers the opportunity to have a shaded lunch or a dinner beneath the stars. Surrounding Area: The beach at Cala Piccola has many amenities and crystal clear waters, but apart from a small strip of sand, swimming is off the rocks and so may not be suitable for all children. Enormous sandy beaches are available a short drive away at the entrance to the Argentario, where the isthmuses of Giannella and Feniglia are scattered with beach bars and play areas. Cala Piccola beach
Cala Piccola is an exclusive consortium, and access is controlled by an automatic gate. There is a hotel within the complex and its restaurant is an option within walking distance on nights when eating on the terrace is not desired. Otherwise, the restaurants of Il Bottegone and La Fontanina are a short drive away on the road to Porto Santo Stefano and the lively town itself has an enormous variety of places to eat. A bar in Porto S Stefano
In addition to marvelling at its natural beauty and bathing in its clear, sparkling waters, the Argentario offers much in terms of activities. Rambles are rewarded by breathtaking panoramas and boat trips to the neighbouring islands of Giglio and Giannutri will allow guests to experience an alternative pace of island life. The villa overlooks the sea
Mainland Tuscany is just a short car trip away from the island, and the south-western corner of the province has some geological secrets in addition to its medieval hilltop towns. The natural hot springs at Saturnia look incredible and feel even better, and are the best way to bathe on a rainy day – although thanks to the mild climate these are usually few and far between! Siena, Pisa and Florence could also be reached for a day-trip, as could Italy’s exciting capital city. Sightseeing: Porto Santo Stefano, Porto Ercole, Orbetello, La Feniglia, Giglio, Giannutri, Rome, Tuscany. The delightful terrace
Italian Islands Insight: Casa sulla Scogliera has been furnished to a very high standard throughout, and seems to have been designed with children in mind. Indeed the high quality furnishings are sometimes tempered by the simple exuberance of children’s drawings. Youngsters will particularly appreciate the upstairs area in the bedroom but parents should be aware that certain aspects of the house’s design are best suited to slightly older children. The raised living and dining area does not have any banister and toddlers would be capable of crawling between the low wall on the terrace and its wooden railing. Interesting interior design
While the infrastructure of the Cala Piccola complex is excellent, it does not include any shops and guests will need a car. As well as being a convenience, this will open up the Argentario for exploration, and there is a lot to be discovered. Beautifully tiled bathrooms
Casa sulla Scogliera has an extra bedroom with en-suite shower room, accessed through a separate entrance underneath the terrace, and this could be used by a nanny, a maid or any other helper that guests may wish to accompany them. The house is ideal for family holidays and the Argentario will instil in any mind a clear impression of just how beautiful nature can be. |
